Meet the team... Jonathan Sawyer
Head of Marketing - United Kingdom
What I do
I am responsible for marketing TES globally, it's a very broad role - and I enjoy the varied scope it offers. I'm particularly fond of inbound marketing, marketing technology, and using digital channels to deliver on that strategy.
Lichfield in Staffordshire, United Kingdom.
How did you get to work for TES?
I have been at TES for two years, and it's flown by. I originally saw the role advertised on LinkedIn which led to a conversation with our Chief Commercial Officer, Eric Ingebretsen - and the rest is history. The opportunity of being able to define the marketing function at such an interesting and ambitious organization excited me then, as much as it excites me today.
Tell us an interesting fact about you.
Prior to becoming immersed in marketing, I played in a band; we got to tour the UK and Europe - even releasing an album. It was actually the work in the band, that unbeknown to me at the time, started me on my marketing journey.
What is your favorite film?
The Big Lebowski... what a brilliant film.
What is your favorite saying?
As anybody who knows me will testify, there are a few... but at the moment 'the quicker you start, the quicker you learn'.
It often stands in marketing that provided you have access to the required data, it rarely hurts to start something knowing you will need to continually learn and refine your approach. It can be easy to lose valuable time obsessing over a project, initiative, or campaign and trying to launch as 'perfect' (which it never is anyway) when you could be actively learning and refining.
Digital marketing, in particular, is an ongoing process of iteration after all.
What do you like about working for TES?
I'm very lucky as I really enjoy my job. TES is an organization that provides autonomy and the space to express ideas and run experiments, I also get all the support and guidance I need from my boss, Eric, on this journey. As an organization, we look for excuses to say 'yes' and move forward with new ideas - we still seem entrepreneurial in that regard.
What does it mean to you, to work for an organization which is sustaining tomorrow?
As now a father to two wonderful daughters, I want the best for them. A big part of this is ensuring we preserve our natural environment, knowing how this, in turn, reserves the health and well-being of humans. When they are older I would like them to recognize that I have made a positive impact in that regard not just for them, but for their children's - children's - children.
This is what we are doing at TES, driven by our vision to become a sustainability leader - we're solving big problems. Being part of a great team that provides these solutions, gives me great satisfaction and motivation.
